How to Make Zardieh Mahi Saffron Fish
Zardieh Mahi is a popular Iranian dish made with fish cooked in a saffron sauce. The saffron gives the dish a beautiful golden color and a delicate flavor. It is often served with rice or bread.

- 1 pound white fish fillets, such as cod, halibut, or tilapia
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads, dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, ginger, and saffron water.
- Add the fish fillets to the marinade and turn to coat. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Remove the fish from the marinade and cook in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot with rice or bread.
Tips
For a richer flavor, you can add 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts to the marinade.
- If you don't have saffron threads, you can substitute 1/4 teaspoon of ground saffron.
- You can also use other types of fish for this recipe, such as salmon, trout, or striped bass.
