How to Make Zardieh Mahi Saffron Fish

 

Zardieh Mahi is a popular Iranian dish made with fish cooked in a saffron sauce. The saffron gives the dish a beautiful golden color and a delicate flavor. It is often served with rice or bread.

ngredients:

  • 1 pound white fish fillets, such as cod, halibut, or tilapia
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads, dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, ginger, and saffron water.
  2. Add the fish fillets to the marinade and turn to coat. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  3. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Remove the fish from the marinade and cook in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot with rice or bread.

Tips

For a richer flavor, you can add 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts to the marinade.

  • If you don't have saffron threads, you can substitute 1/4 teaspoon of ground saffron.
  • You can also use other types of fish for this recipe, such as salmon, trout, or striped bass.
